Brussels, 16 December 2025 — Following its remarkable success, Europe’s first fully virtual zoo is back, bigger than ever and featuring four new animals! GAIA’s Zoo of the Future, which opened in September, has already welcomed nearly 20,000 visitors from around the world—and this is only the beginning.
Imagine coming face-to-face with a tiger in its natural habitat, or following an elephant across the savannah without disturbing it. Thanks to augmented and virtual reality technology, GAIA brings the discovery of wild species to life at Gare Maritime (Tour & Taxis) in Brussels—offering an immersive encounter with animals, free from cages and suffering.
Due to its outstanding success, the exhibition has been extended until 31 May 2026. But that’s not all! Visitors can now discover four new species: the seal, albatross, and blue whale join the Antarctic environment, while the white rhinoceros enriches the savannah experience. A brand-new educational zone will also open, helping visitors better understand the challenges of species conservation and the issues linked to captivity.
Additionally, in response to visitors’ enthusiasm for augmented reality, the total duration of the exhibition has been increased by 25%, allowing for an even deeper immersion into the virtual world.
More than an experience
The Zoo of the Future is not just about offering groundbreaking experiences—it also embodies GAIA’s long-term vision for wild animals in captivity.
With this exhibition, we show that wonder, technology, and animal welfare can go hand in hand. It is a 100% cruelty-free alternative to traditional zoos. The experience evolves, just as our vision of how humans should encounter wildlife evolves.
Step into a zoo where animals are free, technology inspires wonder, and curiosity leads the way—because the future of wildlife encounters starts here.
